Two Hours of Personal AI Help & Guidance
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Curious about AI but not sure where to start? As a software engineer who works with AI tools daily, I’m offering 2 hours of one-on-one help tailored to whatever you need. We’ll start with a conversation about what would actually be useful for you—maybe it’s automating something tedious at work, learning how to use ChatGPT or Claude effectively, building a simple tool together, or just understanding what AI can and can’t do. I can explain how it all works in plain English, help you build something hands-on, or give you practical guidance you can use going forward. No technical background needed—just bring your questions and curiosity! 2 2 .0002E7 20 N N N N

Poem in Letterpress on 11x14" Handmade Paper...a beautiful combination!
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
This poem, Flight Patterns in Pandemic, is printed in letterpress, with letters and images of bird silhouettes in flight. The author, Nora Snyder, is "a poet, performer, organizer, collector, and free-range librarian." These are the words of the poem:
I'm thinking about my grocery list./ I'm not thinking about having no friends./ I'm thinking about what to have for dinner./ I'm not thinking about my husband's silence./ I'm thinking about which book to read next./ I'm not thinking about my daughter miles away in the desert./ I'm thinking about the sound it makes when a flock of birds takes off at the same time./ I'm not thinking about the water stains and peeling paint./ I'm thinking about the relative status of my laundry pile./ I'm not thinking about clubs over skulls and blood in the streets./ I'm thinking about which car I should take.
I'm safe but I'm also sorry./ I'm safe but I make a sound./ I'm safe but it doesn't come first.
I want to burn things./ Prescriptions and diagnoses./ Bills and advertisements./ Credit cards empty of promise./ I want to burn them all./ I want them to billow and struggle./ And choke me with their acrid exhales./ I want the wind to take their flaming remnants./ And extinguish them with brutal swiftness./ I want to burn things.
I'm thinking about the sound it makes when a flock of birds takes off at the same time./ I'm thinking about the sound it makes when a flock of birds takes off at the same time.
I will bring the work to church or deliver to winner within a 15 mile radius of the church.

The chips will be offered in themed sets, complete with tasting notes. Palate cleansers (some veggies and apple slices) and a tart popsicle at the end to round out the experience. We'll be a completely non-alcoholic, family-friendly event with plenty of room to move around in Beach Hall at church.

Kids: To make this family friendly, kids under 18 are $10 (listed as the spectator rate but can fully participate).

Dietary needs: A couple flavors will be meaty and others quite frequently are cheesy but may otherwise meet a variety of dietary needs. Ingredient lists will be available to peruse.

A Visit to the M*A*S*H Mess Tent
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
In the hopes that there are still enough of us around who have fond memories of the TV show M*A*S*H, we present a dinner based on the cookbook by Jeff Maxwell, aka Private Igor, “Secrets of the M*A*S*H Mess: The Lost Recipes of Private Igor.” We will start with cocktails (Colonel Flagg’s Truth Serum), followed by Mildred Potter’s Spinach Rolls, Sherman’s Great Caesar’s Salad, Gasmask Mustard Chicken, Creamy Green Potatoes, and end with Charles’ Blueblood Berry Cake and Bug-out Brownies. Diehard fans can then stay and watch a couple of our favorite episodes from this show that never gets old. Take a trip down memory lane with us! P.S. Despite the characters' constant complaints about the food in the show, this dinner will be delicious! 6 6 .0002E7 20 9/12/26 6:30 PM N N N Y

Shave as the Old Masters Did with a Straight Razor
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
If you have ever been unhappy with double-edged or electric or throw-away plastic razors you should try a straight razor. They last your lifetime and give a close shave unlike any other. The present auction consists of a tutorial in wet shaving with such a razor, and help after the auction on matters such as stropping, honing and buying such razors on the used market. I have been wet shaving since 1957. The tutorial will take place at my home in Clintonville.

In the tutorial you will shave with the razor after my preparation and instruction.

You will receive the following:
One 1950s Alconso Solingen carbon steel razor honed and ready to shave
One leather case, satin lined, to hold two such razors
One wooden-turned birchwood shaving mug with a block of slightly used Osma soap, verbena scent
One good quality 20 mm knot genuine badger shaving brush ([plus one stand for same)

You will eventually need a leather/linen strop, either gotten from e-Bay or bought new. A straight razor gives 90-100 shaves before it needs honing on a stone and I will be happy to hone it for you or show you what to get to do it yourself.

Walk with Nature
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Come join us for an extremely relaxing nature walk (a silent walking meditation) at HighBanks Metro Park, led by Diana Smith. It is based on a concept developed in Japan and there, it is known as "Forest Bathing." The intention is not so much to walk but to "Be in Nature," to slow down, to Be with the trees or with one special tree, or perhaps you would prefer to spend some time with the babbling brook and/ or observe its residents. We will explore two locations in the park that have smooth gravel or paved surfaces with easy access and short walking distances.

We will conclude this encounter with a celebration of munchies and conversation.

Linden Bee Tree Trail
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
To inspire both youth and adults to step outdoors and connect with nature in the neighborhood, local partners have launched an innovative educational tool: the Bee Tree Trails. Designed for mobile phone use, these interactive trails allows users to follow a mapped route where their location updates in real time. Along the walk, participants can tap on highlighted Ohio native trees identified along the trail to learn interesting facts about the native bees and pollinators each tree supports.

The Linden Bee Tree Trail also guides visitors through several community green spaces and community projects, including:

* The Connecting Community Corridor for People, Pollinators, and the Planet (CCC for PPP) native plant gardens
* A vibrant public art mural featuring the endangered Rusty-Patched Bumble Bee
* Sunny Glen Garden’s educational demonstration urban food forest and wildlife habitat converted from all lawn

Are the "waves" in your life overwhelming? Need a little down time to just enjoy the gentle lapping sounds of Lake Erie as it stirs on the beach? What is urbanite, you ask? Join us and find out. We will provide the tools and knowledge you need to locate these treasures. We will also provide a picnic lunch. The pace will be set by the group; we can stay at one beach or explore several. We can even stop at Grandpa's Cheese Barn on the way up to buy snacks. As an Eco Justice component, we will also provide trash bags to help clean up any beaches we visit. This will be a full day, carpooling from the church at 8 am and returning by 6 pm. Vintage Hudson's Bay Point Blanket
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
The Cadillac of wool blankets, Hudson’s Bay blankets were made in North America from 1780 until their recent bankruptcy and closure just this past year (see https://thecavenderdiary.com/2013/01/11/the-history-of-the-hudsons-bay-point-blanket/ for a brief history). This particular blanket is at least 70 years old and is in excellent condition, handed down from my parents. I did hand stitch the top and bottom edges a few years ago when they began to ravel a bit, but it is otherwise intact and clean. This blanket measures 68 x 86 inches, perfect for a double bed; we also used it on our queen-size bed for many years, but alas it does not work at all on our new king bed, so we are reluctantly parting with it. An identical blanket, pink stripe with four points but with noticeable damage, is currently listed on eBay for $375. You can’t beat this deal and you will be toasty all winter. 1 1 .0005E7 50 N N N N
