Brazilian Film Series
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Watch five high quality films, chosen from OSU Brazilian Culture and Portuguese film courses, on FOUR SUNDAY EVENINGS. Each film, through a great drama or excellent documentary, illustrates a time and place in Brazilian history. First four films will be chosen from "My Tasty Little Frenchman" (first encounters of natives and Europeans), "Quilombo" (escaped slave community in N.E. backlands), "Bus 174" (social causes of a bus hijacking in Rio in 2000), "Neighboring Sounds" (the past haunts a quiet city neighborhood in contemporary Recife), "Black Orpheus" (transplant of the Greek myth to Carnival in Rio in mid 20th c.), or "Central Station" (cynical woman takes boy on road trip to find his father). On the last Sunday, a double feature will end with "If I Were You 2," a contemporary comedy. There will be a potluck dinner and Brazilian desserts at intermission. Screenings will be preceded by a brief introduction, accompanied by Brazilian treats, and followed by discussion by participants if desired. 8 3 .00025E7 25 1/19/14 7:00 PM N N N N

Mindful Eating Luncheon This lunch is for the Buddhist in you. Youth and families are welcomed and encouraged to attend. In the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, when you walk, you walk. When you talk, you talk. And...when you eat, you eat. In this spirit, we will share a "mindful eating" experience in ceremonial silence. Some readings and reflections will accompany our eating. We will mindfully eat a vegetarian, gluten-free meal. Weather permitting, we may dine out-of-doors. Bring a light jacket, if needed. We share time during dessert to talk and socialize. 9 2 .00012E7 12 3/2/14 1:30 PM N N N N

Let us provide the kazoos and suggest songs/tunes from a different time. To keep your energy up, you can munch sandwiches, enjoy some warm soup, deviled eggs, fresh veggies with dip and cookies. We'll keep your throat from getting dry with cocktails, wine and soft drinks.
