Guided Twilight Swamp Hike in the Mating Season for Fireflies and Chorus Frogs
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
It's Big Sexy Time in the swamp for Lightning Bugs and Gray Tree Frogs. You can see a few fireflies here and there on any summer night but the vast majority of firefly flashes for the year are concentrated for about a week's time in early to mid June. It's firefly mating season and there is an EXPLOSION of firefly light that can at times be simply astonishing. The musical accompaniment is provided by many hundreds of male Gray Tree Frogs on the make. The firefly show starts at around 9:30 but peaks between 10:00 and 10:30. We will meet in the parking lot at the Wilma Schiermeier, Olentangy River Wetland Research Park at 352 W. Dodridge Street, Columbus, OH 43202 and walk the under 1 mile loop with some longer options. There are many thousands of starlings roosting nearby and it's also not uncommon to see raccoons and bats and sometimes owls. Flashlights are discouraged but red lights are fine. We can provide red lights for about 10 people and a couple of kinds of bug spray. 50 18 .00015E7 15 6/15/18 9:30 PM N N N N

Game Afternoon for the Young at Heart and the Young Come have fun playing board games for both the younger kids and the older kids/adults. We will have two tables with several game options. Snacks will be provided, with vegetarian and gluten free options available. The way this works is that there will be 8 spots open for bidding. 1 slot = 1 adult + 1 kid. If you have two kids that want to come then you would need to buy 2 slots (i.e. first kid is free). All kids must be accompanied by an adult. You do not need to have a kid to attend; you just have to enjoy playing board games with them. 10 7 .00015E7 15 3/17/18 2:00 PM Y N N N
