Pablo Picasso created first a drawing and then re-did the drawing on a printing plate for his friend Roby (author Robert Godet), for inclusion in his book L’Age de Soleil. Since the plate reproduced the drawing exactly, a print from the plate is reversed. Thus, Picasso’s signature (signed in the plate) appears backwards. Godet retained the etching plate with Picasso’s acquiescence so that he, Roby, could make some money by printing some more “Picassos” and selling them.
