Two Fabulous Artists, One Fabulous Tour
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Come join me, an experienced docent at the Columbus Museum of Art, for a private tour of two legendary women artists. Both practiced during the mid-20th century and greatly influenced other artists in their field. Both are once again being recognized in the 21st century, for their innovative works. The exhibit for Louise Nevelson, Dawn to Dusk, spans her colorful career from paintings to collages to monumental sculptures. Toshiko Takaezu's exhibit, Wild Earth, demonstrates how her environmental approach to ceramic arts has influenced ceramic artists to this day. The tour will last for about 1 hour after which you can enjoy a snack in Schokko Café on me. 6 6 .00025E7 25 4/27/25 1:30 PM N N N

Walk with Nature
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Come join us for an extremely relaxing nature walk (a silent walking meditation) at HighBanks Metro Park, led by Diana Smith. It is based on a concept developed in Japan and there, it is known as "Forest Bathing." The intention is not so much to walk but to "Be in Nature," to slow down, to Be with the trees or with one special tree, or perhaps you would prefer to spend some time with the babbling brook and/ or observe its residents. We will explore two locations in the park that have smooth gravel or paved surfaces with easy access and short walking distances.

We will conclude this encounter with a celebration of munchies and a non-alcoholic beverage.
The rain date is May 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM.

Flame Violet Houseplant
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
This beautiful tropical plant is loved for its vibrant foliage and red flowers. The tricolor leaves have a silvery sheen and are bordered with hues of wine. The red trumpet shaped flowers accent the lush foliage. It is known for its trailing habit and is well suited for pots, hanging baskets and terrariums.

I acquired a start for my grandmother in 1964 and these plants are from that lineage. I have found them very easy to grow. Winner arrange with me for pick-up.

Hand Sewn Quilt
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
This beautiful hand sewn quilt was made to cuddle up under. My grandmother made quilts during the winter months when she could not play in her garden. As was the custom, the fabrics came from her's and other family sewing projects and were used in her quilts. As she sewed she envisioned the recipient being toasty warm under the quilt's embrace.

This new quilt measures 88" X 96" and is large enough to fit a Queen or King bed. Winner arrange with me for pick up.

We can plan for snacks or a light meal depending on where we launch, from a slip at the ACSA or the ramp at the marina. Either place offers pleasant facilities to relax before and after sailing. We require life jackets be worn as we step onto the dock. We have plenty to share for adults and children.

Ever wondered what it is like to drive a horse and carriage? Here's your chance to learn and experience how fun carriage driving can be! Let's meet up for a trip to the barn in New Albany. We will meet the horses and learn how to safely groom and harness up! Our teacher is Mic Mac Aussie, a 23 year old Standardbred racehorse. Don't worry, he has not raced on the track in many years. Then we will take the lines for some driving fun! Starting out in the indoor arena and graduate to venture out about the farm. My cart sits two people and has an easy entry step. We will cover the basics with safety first for a leisurely drive. Maybe try an obstacle course, too! One of the first things I learned is never drive just in a straight line. Aussie loves his job and loves soft peppermints even more! Won't you join us for an afternoon of fun at the barn?!
Date flexible and TBD, once it gets warmer and dry outside too. If two different people bid we will agree on a single date.

Chalice in Watercolor & Pen
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
This watercolor and pen chalice was created here at First UU during Expressive Worship and is available for pickup in the office during main office hours. It is featured on some of the covers to our orders of worship.

I experience the creation of art and poetry as an act of meditation. For this chalice, I first painted using a variety of watercolors, painting layer after layer. Once it was dry, I used fine point pens to create separation between the colors and to add texture to the shapes. When the paper was torn as I removed the tape used to affix it, I glued the strips back in a 3 dimensional pattern to accentuate the uniqueness and beauty of "damage." I believe it is our flaws and imperfections that create our need to rely on each other, our need for connection. They should be celebrated.

This portrait session includes a total of 10 B&W images (1 roll) taken in an outdoor or sunlit-interior setting of your choice (Columbus area), the original hand-developed negatives, one museum-quality 5x7 or 8x10 print, and high resolution scans for digital sharing or for DIY additional prints at your leisure.

I've been making wine from kits for a long time. It's an easy hobby to get started with and I'd love to show you how it's done. I will bring you a pair of large glass carboys, a bucket for fermenting, and most of the other odds and ends you'll need. Columbus has two homebrew stores I recommend - The Winemaker's Shop at 3517 N. High, or Buckeye Brewcraft on 161 (or you can order from many online places).
Find yourself a wine kit of a variety you are fond of, set aside some counter space, ideally near a sink, and I will come over and show you the ropes. Your equipment comes from a friend of Jeannie Sperling's who would be happy to see it being used in his memory. Later when it's time to bottle your wine (most kits make about 23 bottles) you can borrow my corking machine.

You can have a lively literary salon in your own home for you and your guests on a date of your choosing. Steve Abbott, sometimes (amusingly, to him) called "The Godfather of Columbus poetry" and a founding member of The Poetry Forum, which was among the longest-running poetry series in the country (39 years), will provide a reading from his two full-length books and five smaller collections, along with newer works, which include thoughtful/scathing political commentary. If you like, he'll also present selections from the work of your favorite poet/s if notified in advance.

Non-Traditional Twice Baked Potato Casserole
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Our non-traditional twice baked potato casserole is a treat! We start with potatoes and go from there. We add things you would commonly find in a loaded baked potato, like cheese (if not dairy free), ham (if not vegetarian), etc. Then we start adding other things that you wouldn’t normally find and bake it all in a casserole.

If you have a flavor profile you would like, please let us know. (For example, Mexican, Mediterranean, super spicy, Italian, etc.)

We can make this vegetarian, dairy free, and/or gluten free! Please let us know if you would like us to do any of these options. This recipe will fill one 9x12 deep aluminum baking pan.

We can either deliver it to your house, or meet at the church.

Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Our non-traditional pasta salad is a classic! It will include 1 pound of pasta and a bunch of other things you wouldn’t normally find in a pasta salad. We start with the basics: pasta, veggies, maybe some ham cubes, and then we start adding other things.

We do usually keep with a theme or flavor profile, so if you have a request, please let us know! (For example, Mexican, Mediterranean, super spicy, Asian, etc.)

We can make this vegetarian or vegan, but unfortunately we can’t make it gluten free. If you have any allergies or food preferences, please let us know!

We can either deliver it to your house, or meet at the church.

Troubled by Technology? Maybe I Can Help.
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Is your phone auto-correcting you in a language you don’t speak or setting itself on silent at seemingly random times? Just want to learn how to use some features of your tech or set up some home automation?
If tech in your life is giving you trouble, I’m happy to help. Together we can figure out the frustrations of your phone or the conundrum that is your computer. Or simply learn some new tricks to get all those “bells and whistles” working.
Let’s get the tech in your life working for you instead of against you.
I’m pretty tech savvy and excellent at research. If I can’t figure it out, I have a vast network of people I can call upon for assistance.
Caveats: I cannot build you a custom website for your business, but I can help you set it up with something like square space. I can’t fix a broken computer, but I can help get your new one integrated into your world.
