Come stay in Martha Holman and Wayne Guzy's comfortable home away from home located 6 hours north near Boulder Junction, WI. You will stay in their cabin located just steps from the shore of High Lake, eat breakfast watching the water lap the shore and listen to the loons lull you into sleep. The cottage sleeps 4 in twin beds (two bedrooms), and perhaps a 5th on the sofa. It includes a small but full kitchen and a living dining area with reading chairs, sofa, and table/chairs for eating. The bathroom is new and has a shower. There are two kayaks and a canoe for your use as well as a fire pit, with plenty of wood and outside seating. You may see deer, some of them the famous white deer, eagles, otters, turtles. High lake is located in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest, a fairly remote lake with infrequent users, mostly fishing boats. The Manitowish River is an easy paddle and accessible from High Lake. There are abundant bike paths and hiking trails. Boulder Junction is the shopping and dining destination for the area communities. You will find Wisconsin supper clubs, fish frys, rustic taverns, even a wine bar! And Mad Dog Jake's Ice Cream is a must. The cottage is available for seven days, any time between 6/1 and 9/15 by mutual agreement with Martha and Wayne. 1 -1 001000.0 1,000 .004E7 400

Classic Cooking Course and Dinner Party Learn some classic recipes for dinner parties with cook and food scientist Karen Courtright, hosted by Susan Comstock and Marc Rolfes. In this hands-on class, 6 participants will have the opportunity to prepare and then enjoy appetizer and a 3-course dinner. Items to be prepared include hot appetizers, main and side dishes with sauce components, and salad with homemade vinaigrettes. We’ll make an amazing, rustic almond and carrot cake for dessert. (The meal, except for one appetizer, is naturally gluten free.) The class is suitable for all levels, but is especially geared to learning how simple it can be to make an impressive meal without stress!

While we are working, Karen will explain the ‘why’ behind the ingredients and techniques, so that you really master the recipes and can make them yourself with confidence. Marc Rolfes will explain how to find good, reasonably priced wines to pair with food, and you will try out his pairings with each course. You will be sent home with printed copies of the recipes including detailed descriptions, and information about each wine, as well as any leftovers!

Would you like to bring a guest to help enjoy our results? You can add up to one guest to join at mealtime for an additional $40.

FOOTBALL!!! (and Bobby Short) With Z GirlZ Join us at our posh pad for Super Bowl Sunday. Watch grunting, sweating, beasty boys butt heads on our downstairs Sony 70" screen with the Sonos sound system cranked!

If your team is losing and you just can't bear to look anymore, take solace in a game or two on our Brunswick pool table. (Loser does after-party cleanup.)

And… for those of us who like our male entertainers a bit more refined, listen to Bobby Short (or Louie Armstrong, or whichever talented gentleman we're in the mood for) upstairs in our pretty, artsy-fartsy parlor.

We'll make a kettle of chili, we'll have buckets of beer and popcorn and, since it was hit at the Lincoln Square potluck at our home this fall, we'll have Sarah's bourbon cocktail for this two-tiered, fund-raising occasion, as well.

We're on Montrose, at the southern tip of the Ravenswood neighborhood.
Limit 20 guests (21-years and over, please).

One case of labeled home-brewed craft beer delivered to your home. I've brewed for around 8 years and have made various styles and types: Belgian Blond, Oktoberfest, Barley Wine, Lemon-Basil-Garlic Ale, Peanut Butter & Jelly Ale, Hefeweizen, American Lager, IPAs, Vanilla Caramel Cream Ale, etc. Or, send in the clones: Rogue's Dead Guy, Stone's IPA, 3Floyds' Zombie Dust, Dogfish Head's 60 Minute IPA, Bell's Two Hearted Ale, Alchemist's Heady Topper, etc. I'm happy to brew up something to suit your tastes (one month advanced notice required). Or, if you just want a recent sampling of what I have available in my cellar: (Lambic, Wheat Wine, Stout, Wee Strong Scottish Ale, etc.) that's available now. Cheers!
NEW: I can teach you how to brew beer! Either hang out for a brew day in the future and see the process first hand and taste some home brews or come with me to a local brewery like Temperance or Sketchbook and see how it's done on a larger scale. I am happy to share my passion for this exciting hobby.

Gregory Shifrin Recital

When you hear Gregory play on Sunday, do you think: I’d love to hear that again? Now, you can.

In this 4th Annual auction event, Gregory will play a private, informal recital in our home. Selections will be chosen by the attendees from a list that Gregory will supply. Or, if you’d rather be surprised, just come and enjoy. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served throughout the evening.

At the break we’ll freshen our drinks, fill our plates and pause for an “Ask Gregory” Q&A. It promises to be a celebration of music and friendship, food and wine.

It is also a celebration of Gregory Shifrin, a man who has come to mean so much to us not only for his consummate artistry, but also for the warmth and grace he brings to us and to this Beloved Community.
Please join us.
