Wine Tasting, France vs Everyone else An advanced wine tasting even a novice would enjoy. We will taste wines "blind"and decide what we like. There will be a few ringers, ie... very expensive bottles going against value wines. Lets see if price matters. Also learn about storing, opening and serving wine.
The event will take place at Scott and Jackie Lahey's house in Maplewood on Sunday January 18th.

AMERICANAH book discussion

A book discussion of AMERICANAH by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

"It is ostensibly a love story – the tale of childhood sweethearts at school in Nigeria whose lives take different paths when they seek their fortunes in America and England – but it is also a brilliant dissection of modern attitudes to race, spanning three continents and touching on issues of identity, loss and loneliness." (Elizabeth Day/ The Guardian)

The book was selected as one of the 10 Best Books of 2013 by the editors of the New York Times Book Review.[1] It won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award (Fiction),[2] and was shortlisted for the 2014 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction[3] of the United Kingdom.

Your hosts will provide a bountiful selection of sweet and savory refreshments. Please purchase your personal copy of this book for our discussion. Discussion will take place in Montclair.

Hosted by Ami Brabson, Connie Thames, Robin Sharif and Shirley Matthews.

Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Come take an introductory lesson in tai chi followed by a nice Chinese lunch.

Saturday, May 16, 11 am. Tai chi is a Chinese system of slow meditative physical exercise that improves balance, agility, circulation, heart health and mental health. It is great for the brain! We practice Yang Traditional Long Form, a style that dates back to the late 1700s in China. All ages and levels welcome. The lesson will be held at Southend Body Mind and Spirit Center, 312 1/2 Orange Road, Montclair, or Canterbury Park if it's warm and dry enough, followed by lunch about three blocks away at the home of Judith Rew, 7 Jefferson Place. Judith Rew is a 13-year practitioner, ranked "Golden Eagle" and a bronze medalist at the Yang Traditional Tai Chi Fourth International Invitational Tournament of Shanxi Province, China in August, 2012. Zen Drawing Workshop
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
No art experience necessary! Come discover a simple meditative drawing technique, based on the practice of Zentangle, where there is no erasing, no judgment, no expectations, and -- most importantly -- no right and no wrong. In this drawing practice, all you need is a black pen and a small square of paper and the ability to put that pen to paper and make a mark. (In other words: Everyone can do it!) The goal of the process is to be fully focused on the moment, not on the end result....and it works! In this three-hour workshop we will put pen to paper, learn simple drawing patterns that facilitate being "in the flow," and laugh and play while we make our marks. Materials included. 8 4 000045.0 45 .0002E7 20 1/25/15 1:00 PM
