2 Lessons - Learning to Improvise on Piano
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
About 20 years ago I had a friend show me quickly how to make chords on a piano and improvise around them. Since then I've been fooling people who hear me play thinking that I took piano lessons. I can look up the basic chords (same thing a guitar player uses) to any song and play something that sounds good alone or to sing to. I've taught for fun other people over the years and they're always shocked at how easy it is to learn. I'm NOT going to show you how to read sheet music (traditional piano lessons) but instead how to improvise around chords (no previous music experience needed at all).

Sample of me playing in this style: tiny.cc/dirkpiano

We can do the two lessons at UUSS on the piano - after service or during the week sometime. Two lessons is honestly all you will need to learn this style and practice and play on your own!

Wildflower Hike on Stevens Trail, Colfax
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Join us for a wildflower hike on the Stevens Trail in Colfax. The 9 miles out and back trail goes down to the confluence of Secret Ravine and the North Fork of the American River. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was used as a toll road for miners. Along the trail, we will still find remnants of the mining era. The trail changes 1,735 feet in elevation and runs along the canyon wall. It has majestic scenery of the river and the forest-covered mountains across the river. A myriad of wildflowers of many hues blanket the hillside. If you have a fear of heights, this is NOT the hike for you. However, if you are comfortable on narrow trails and are aerobically fit to climb 1,735 in 4.5 miles, this hike is not to be missed! Lunch is included. 6 50 3 000040.0 40 .00025E7 25 4/18/20 8:00 AM

Following the Amherst Writers and Artists method which focuses on strengthening the writing voice in a safe and supportive environment, up to eight bidders will write and read together in the magical loft. We will use a variety of proven techniques and prompts to nurture the writing soul. In this process, sharing is encouraged, but there is no pressure to do so. We will not offer critiques but will respond to what is strong in work that is shared. This group will maintain confidentiality. 8 90 0 000045.0 45 .0001E7 10 4/7/20 6:00 PM

Big Meadow to Dardanelles Lake
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Our hike begins at the Big Meadow Trailhead south of Tahoe. We climb briefly to Big Meadow, usually bursting with wildflowers in early summer. Beyond the meadow we continue up through a forest of pines and aspens, cross a few small streams then descend to glacially carved Dardanelles Lake. At the lake we'll enjoy a "gourmet" trail lunch, a nap if you'd like, and it's a great place for swimming with sandy beaches and granite slabs for drying off. This hike is 7.8 miles and described as "moderate" (also "prepare to perspire"). Our trailhead elevation is 7300' with a gain of 900' during the hike. Lunch is included. 6 50 -1 000035.0 35 .00025E7 25 7/25/20 8:30 AM
