Growing up with model trains
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Those of us who grew up in the post-WWII era---at least the guys, but not exclusively---likely had model trains. Whether Lionel O gauge or American Flyer S gauge, our tracks under the Christmas tree often "graduated" to tables in the basement. I still have quite a collection from that era ...and track on which to run them.

If you'd like to dig out your vintage O gauge, bring it to my place and give it a test run.

Electrification of the Pennsylvania Railroad: My modeling of a portion of it.
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
This is the story of how competition for direct railroad access to Manhattan led to electrification of the PRR and (the once-glorious) Penn Station into what is now the Northeast Corridor Amtrak line.

My most recent modeling aims to recall the suburban line west from Philadelphia to Paoli and the great fleet of MP54s that provided service. This also includes an accurate working scale model of the famous GG1. Dates as arranged. One at a time is ideal.

The Struggle for Open Housing: A White Guy's Involvement After a brief mention of what got me involved, I'll relate, in two parts, (1) the early 'Sixties civil rights movement and the reality of neighborhood segregation; then (2) the quite different tactics after passage of the Fair Housing Act (1968) to attain compliance with the law: housing audits, class-action law suits and the local efforts to sustain integration and cope with the persistent symptoms of past discrimination. 12 9 .00005E7 5

Beyond the horseless carriage: the evolution of how we travel
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
This will be a conversation at my place, illustrated by both digital images and scale models. Highlights will include the reality of our dependence on horses to electric street cars, the interurban era and the competition from steam engines (including steam traction) and early electrics to how Henry Ford's Model T and the Lincoln Highway put us into gasoline-fueled automobiles driven on more and more paved highways.

This is limited to one or two persons at a time. Dates as mutually agreed.

Holden Arboretum Springtime Hike and Picnic Join Sherry Spencer and Susan Paxson on a beautiful Spring
May Day hike at the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland. We are

The Arboretum has a multitude of gardens and places to sit

choosing. There’s a butterfly garden if it’s not too early for
for their return and the visitor center is both lovely and
educational. We encourage all to sign up!
A vegetarian lunch will be provided and a large thermos jug of
water will be available to refill water bottles. Most certainly
some yummy desserts will be offered.
We will take two cars (if we meet our capacity of eight participants).
Let’s plan to meet at the church as we feel it the most central location

Eclipse Viewing Party Join us to view the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. This "Great North American Eclipse" will occur when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring the image of the Sun for us lucky viewers. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is larger than the Sun's, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness. Totality occurs only in a narrow path across Earth's surface, and WE'RE IN IT!

We will supply you with safe viewing glasses, and some fun snacks and beverages, as we watch the eclipse over the course of 2 hours from our naturalized back yard in Berea. How exciting! The next eclipse of this nature will not happen until August 2044.

KOMBUCHA TEA STARTER--$15 Cost: $15

I have been making Kombucha Tea for years. I will provide the SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast), starter liquid, cotton cover and instructions.

For Basic Kombucha Tea you will need (Not provided):
1. Large jar that is glass, preferable a half gallon or gallon jar
2. Black, green or oolong tea
3. Sugar

If you want to add flavors (this is called a second ferment) you will also need smaller jars such as canning jars. Flavorings can be added which are made from fruit juice, sweetened herbal teas and macerated fruits.

I always have starters with instructions and can give them to you any Sunday. This is not a class, but rather the ingredients to start. But if you have any questions, I can help you along the way.

REVERAND ALI NEEDS MORE STOLES I will make Ali some more stoles for worship. For every $100 that is donated I will make a stole for her this year (up to 3). I will choose the design. Amounts can be donated in increments of $20.

In other words, I am offering 15 slots for people to donate $20 each. For example, if you buy 3 slots, the cost is $60 (3 X $20).

If all slots are filled I can complete 3 stoles for her in 2024.

Note: If there is a partial amount leftover that does not equal $100, I will put it towards a similar offering next year.

See Billy Joel and Rod Stewart with Deb! See Billy Joel and Rod Stewart with me! Concert is on September 13 (Fri), 7:00 PM. Both are Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famers and are known for putting on a good show. And as Billy Joel is 74 years old, and Rod Stewart is 79 years old, who knows – this could be our last chance to see them live. Seats are in Section 110, Row 14. We’ll meet at the church, and I will drive us to the concert in my awesome 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, while enjoying a Billy Joel / Rod Stewart playlist on Spotify. Face value of ticket is approximately $300.00. Minimum bid is $100.00. This is a biddable item, so check back frequently to make sure this ticket is yours! 1 0 .001E7 100 9/13/24 7:00 PM

Pizza-n-Poker It’s baaaack! After a nearly ten-year hiatus, I’m reviving my Pizza-n-Poker event. Now an afternoon soiree held at the church, we’ll gather at 1:00 PM, with pizza at 1:30, followed by dessert, snacks and, of course, poker. We’ll be playing one game of tournament style No Limit Texas Hold’em. Both novice and experienced poker players are welcome – while the game will be competitive, it will also be friendly. And what will we be playing for, you ask? Glory – and “fabulous” prizes from Five Below! Who could want more? When you sign up, please provide your email address. Also, please indicate if you are a vegetarian or have other dietary issues. 15 5 .0002E7 20 10/12/24 1:00 PM

Genealogy Research Ever wanted to do more research on your family tree? I have accounts with both MyHeritage and Ancestry and would like to help. I am offering 10 hours of genealogy research to the two highest bidders. This will include copies of documents I have access to, like census records, marriage license indexes, death records, and the like. My accounts include international databases as well. A caveat, I will try to track down as much as I can, but sometimes there are unavoidable dead ends due to lost or damaged records. I look forward to working with you! 2 0 .00025E7 25

Handknit shawls
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
I love to knit. Like, a lot! In fact, I am running out of room to store things. I have a lot of very nice shawls that I just don't have the time to wear. They include many different shapes, sizes, and colors. For this listing, you will get to help select a shawl from my collection that will be yours to keep. Keep in mind that all my shawls are knit from superwash wool yarns, so they are super soft! For the yarn and time I put into my shawls, this price is a bargain, but it's helping me, too, so let's do it! 10 8 .00045E7 45

A Visit to the Cleveland Botanical Garden Susan Paxson and Sherry Spencer will come and pick you up and we will go to the Cleveland Botanical Garden in University Circle. If we plan our trip before March 17th, we can experience "Orchids Forever" to melt away the winter blues! This year’s show will highlight the serene feeling of sunrise and sunset. Species like Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium, and Oncidium come in hues of pink, purple, orange, and yellow—the sky’s color palette. Guests will be surrounded by orchids located throughout the indoor gardens and glasshouses, a dreamscape for flower lovers, and endless photo opportunities for all. If this timing doesn't work for you, it is also wonderful in the warmer months, when we can see the outdoor gardens including the Japanese Garden created by our own David Slawson. The date and time will be determined by each individual buyer. Two to four people can go together along with me and Sherry. We are willing to go up to 4 times so 8 people can sign up. If you have someone you want to pair up with, and they also sign up, let us know! 8 3 .00025E7 25
