Canvass Kickoff Show Viewing Perhaps you’ve heard of SWUU’s legendary Canvass Kickoff Shows of days gone by. Or perhaps not. Canvass Kickoff Shows were entertainments put on to open SWUU’s yearly kickoff of our canvass for the operating budget. These entertainments were written, choreographed, sung, danced, and performed by SWUU’s very own SWUU Players. My offering on May 17 at 7:00 pm at the church is a showing of the 2004 Show, “I Had a Dream.” The concept of this show involves a group of UUs trying to plan a really big fundraiser. One of the ideas that pops up is a celebrity showcase where big name singers come and endorse their cause and sing a song or two (you know, a farm-aid kind of thing). Of course, they soon realize that, while Jim Scott and Ellen Hansen-Ellis are very talented, they may not draw hundreds of thousands. Eventually, the group breaks up without coming up with anything and goes home. Then one of the group falls asleep and has a dream, and they dream about . . . we’ll you’ll have to come to viewing to see! Light snacks will be provided! 50 36 .00005E7 5 5/17/25 7:00 PM

Late Summer Wildflower Meadow Walk Come and experience the beauty of Ohio’s summer wildflowers in colorful profusion at the Margaret Peak Preserve in North Ridgeville. On this 2-3 mile walk across the wide open, flat preserve we will encounter masses of flowers in bloom, along with many birds, butterflies, and insects of all types. Sunflowers, spiderwort, milkweed, bergamot, thistle, coneflowers, and many more crowd this prairie-like and vast property. Several small lakes frequently host water birds of many types. Located at 36585 Butternut Ridge in North Ridgeville, this walk will probably be hot in August (there is little shade); sunscreen and hats are a must. 20 8 .0001E7 10 8/16/25 9:00 AM

Spring Ephemeral Wildflower Hike This year we will do a two mile hike along Adam Run Stream in the Cuyahoga Valley. This hike is in the Hampton Hills Metropark, nestled within the national park at 2925 Akron-Peninsula Rd. Along this meandering stream we will find many of the delicate and beautiful wildflowers that bless NE Ohio in the early spring. Your hosts will help with flower discovery and identification. Lift your spirits with Trilliums, Wild Phlox, Spring Beauties, Trout Lilies, Bluets, Cohosh, Anemones, and more. This in-and-out hike is a lovely setting but is always muddy in spring, so proper footwear is essential. The hike is a rolling trail up and back down the creek valley, with a couple (easy) stream crossings.

After the hike, any who are interested can meet for lunch nearby at Fisher’s in Peninsula (Dutch treat).

Meet in the parking lot just off Akron-Peninsula Rd.

Dinner and Discussion Come and enjoy a multi-course vegetarian meal, followed by a spirited discussion among friends. Dinner will be on our patio (weather permitting), overlooking our naturalized backyard of native wildflowers and grasses. Our post-dinner discussion is always thoughtful, with lots of laughter. Past discussion topics include favorite songs, is there such a thing as true love, and are humans moving towards enlightenment? (clearly not!).

Dr. Strangewrench, or Learn To Stop Worrying And Love Your Car
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
I’ll be giving a hands-on class on basic car maintenance in the church parking lot. No prior experience necessary. Want to know what those little warning lights on the dash mean, and when to worry? No idea what a wheel alignment is? Would you like to be able to check your own oil, add your own washer fluid, and top off the air in your tires? Want to know the difference between an engine air filter and a cabin air filter, and be able to check and change them when needed? Have the desire to know how to jack up your car and change a tire? Maximum 18 vehicles in the class, but more than one person per vehicle is fine. Date will be in May on a Saturday afternoon, exact date to be announced. 18 15 .0001E7 10 5/17/25 1:00 PM

Genealogy Research Ever wanted to do more research on your family tree? I have accounts with both MyHeritage and Ancestry and would like to help. I am offering 10 hours of genealogy research to the first two bidders. This will include copies of documents I have access to, like census records, marriage license indexes, death records, and the like. My accounts include international databases as well. A caveat, I will try to track down as much as I can, but sometimes there are unavoidable dead ends due to lost or damaged records. I look forward to working with you! 2 0 .0005E7 50

6 hours of child care in my home Susan is willing take care of your children for up to 6 hours in our home. I have lots of toys which our kids enjoyed and we live close to the library, playground, and metroparks, all within walking distance. I also have quiet activities like games, and crafts that my children enjoyed. If your kids like to bake, we can even bake cookies. They can try out our piano if they are musically inclined. I have a dog and two cats, so only people who are comfortable with animals should buy.
The time would have to be arranged with the buyer. You will never find a deal like this one at $10 per hour for an energetic experienced teacher and mom/grammy. You can also split your time up into two different times as long as I am available.
