What's better than a great night of music?
Great music by a scenic lake, with the sun setting, and some wine and a cheese board to complete the evening.
Skylands Songwriters Guild will again in 2023 be producing 3 free concerts at HorseShoe Lake Gazebo in Succasunna. Dates and artists to be determined. Some of our past shows have featured Grover Kemble, Grace Morrison, Alex Radus, Loretta Hagen and E'lissa Jones.
Allow us to host YOU AND YOUR GUEST at the concert of your choosing for the 2023 season. We will set up a small picnic table with a bottle of chardonay or merlot, and a platter of cheese, fruit and crackers. Just bring yourselves and your camp chairs!

Note that $30 purchases TWO seats to this event.

For additional pictures from last summer's concerts you can visit
www.facebook.com/skylandssongwritersguild and scan the albums.

Have you ever wanted to ride the Orient Express or drive a train that’s over 100 years old? You can do both, sort of. When you visit David Landau's antique model electric train collection you can run 32 trains and 6 trolleys (but not all at the same time) ranging from a 1914 model to one as new as 2019. Enjoy some wine and cheese as you learn a little history of electric model trains and enjoy sending them through caves, around a working drive-in movie, past a film studio backlot, through Area 51 and more as you do a "scavenger hunt." Then relax and watch the 1952 thriller mystery film "The Narrow margin" (which all takes place on a train) in David's cozy condo movie theater. Wine and Cheese will also be included (and popcorn!) 7 0 .00035E7 35 12/11/22 2:00 PM

Giant Crimson Tomato Plant Here's your opportunity to take home a rare heirloom tomato plant that was previously extinct for 87 years.

If you haven’t heard of this tomato, don’t feel bad. Most haven’t for over 45 years. It was extinct until a seed purveyor sprouted seeds that came from 85 year old packets.

The Giant Crimson produces decent amounts of tomatoes with a pink/red hue when fully ripe weighing around 8-10 ounces sometimes close to a pound. The fruit is a bit of beefsteak with meatiness, but also juiciness of a slicer. Seeds are medium size but few.

Purchasers will receive a tomato seedling grown from the seeds that Brooke germinated and grew in her 2022 garden to be transplanted into your own garden. Pick up will be April/May from fellowship.

Here's to a sweet summer with sours! Let's kick off summer by sampling a variety of sour beers.

A sour beer is one that has been deliberately brewed to achieve high levels of acidity. This elevated acidity delivers a predominantly sour flavor to the beer as opposed to the bitter or sweet flavors found in standard ales and lagers. Many have fruity undertones making them the perfect beer for summer. Come one come all: sour newbies or sour ole timers for a great gathering to cheers to the start of summer!

Brooke started birdwatching at the beginning of the pandemic. Over the last 3 years, she has become an avid birder. Come join Brooke to learn about starting your hobby as a birder, identifying birds, drawing specific birds to your yard, feeding birds (bird feeders and specific foods), how to deter squirrels, and how to make the best environment for your birds in your back yard.

Brooke will share a variety of resources to start you on your path and will point out some birds you may not have even noticed.

If the weather holds, a short walk to the local lake may also take place in order to look for water loving birds. This session is scheduled at the right time to see orioles, grosbeaks, and hummingbirds.

Each participant will leave with a homemade nature based feeder which is ideal for attracting tree clinging birds.

How to Design a Garden You know her gardens from the garden parties, but how did Elizabeth get such an amazingly landscaped oasis? Time and knowhow. Over the years Elizabeth has perfected landscaping techniques such as design, planning, height, color, texture, seasonality, architecture, blending of perennials with annuals, etc. This is your opportunity to learn the “knowhow” from the best, Elizabeth Bain who has been gardening for 28 years and Elizabeth Johnston (master garden designer) will advise on what to look for when deciding on plants for your garden. In this 2 hour landscape design course featuring a power point presentation as well as in person tour and examples, they will walk you through the process of taking a piece of lawn and turning it into a wonderful garden to enjoy. From planning and designing, you’ll learn how to transform a piece of your space into something visually stunning. They will talk about plant size, placement, color, blooming season, and a variety of details she has incorporated into her 20+ year garden. Whether it is a few plants tucked around the mailbox or a large enough swath to include a bench or water feature, Elizabeth has examples of how to incorporate many kinds of plantings into your own space. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. 30 25 .00035E7 35 4/8/23 7:00 PM

Biscotti Tree
Invalid Image LinkSold

I have been making this edible biscotti tree since the mid-seventies for my family. It became particularly relevant when I married a Jewish man. In the true Judeo-Christian tradition, the tree reflects a Christian symbol; but as you pick off and eat the biscotti and look down the center of the tree, you see a Star of David. It is a great addition to your holiday dessert table, and biscotti will last at least a week – longer if you dunk it in coffee or tea. I will deliver it to the Fellowship on December 23 or 24 or when the buyer wants it. 1 0 .00025E7 25

Hackensack River Eco cruise
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Join Toby and Annette Tyler on a 30 foot research boat for an evening cruise through the briny marshes of the Hackensack River Watershed to see the power of restoring and preserving our wetlands.

The boat trip is beautiful. The NYC skylne shines, dazzling like the Emerald City off beyond the rich green marshes. Trains rumbling over the bridges and old factory shells have the charm of old machinery turned into relics.
Due to increased interest, we’ll have two boats for the trip.

Learn to Drive a Manual Transmission Driving a manual transmission is an important but increasingly rare life skill, especially if you think you may want to drive outside the USA. This item is aimed at youth just learning to drive and at adults who have avoided learning until now. Learn the basics and then progress to advanced techniques.

Three separate 1 hour classes in an indestructible 1999 Subaru Forester with 5-speed stick are offered. Buy just one class, or if you buy all three, Gabor guarantees you will master this skill. The lesson will continue until you are comfortable.

Come TAXI With Me
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
In previous years, Gabor has offered "Come Fly With Me." Some people may have been reluctant to actually go up in a small airplane, or let their kids go up, which he totally understands.

Therefore, this year, Gabor is offering "Come TAXI With Me" as well. Same plane, same airport, same dual controls so you can try it yourself. The big difference is that you and Gabor just taxi around the airport, and never leave the ground! Gabor's grandson Emerson (see photo) did it ...

Great for kids of all ages as well as cautious adults. Also, less trouble scheduling, because the weather would matter much less.

See your house, the Water Gap, the Fellowship, foliage, flowering trees, and more from approximately 2000–3000 feet. The plane has dual controls so you can get some hands-on experience, but let Gabor do the landing, please! Departure is from Somerset Airport in Bedminster.

Date TBD and of course subject to weather. But winners will get their flights EVENTUALLY ....

A Day with Friends at Luna Parc

Gather in Sandystown, New Jersey (approximately a 1-hour drive from the Fellowship) to discover and explore Luna Parc, which is described on their website https://www.lunaparc.com as a "private home and studio of madcap artist Ricky Boscarino." The grounds are interesting, but the house is the real star. This is a rain-or-shine event.

If weather is good, Gabor and Marjorie MAY offer a ride from the Fellowship in a Miata 2-seater sports car (2 cars available) for an additional donation. Winners may make carpool arrangements. The estate is close to Peters Valley, so there will be an opportunity to explore that as well.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sun protection as well as water. The date is tentative and subject to change depending on weather, other events, etc.
